Fred Crippen Fred Crippen

After a Marine Corp enlistment and graduation from Michigan State, Fred Crippen began his career at the Shamus Culhane Studio in New York. He worked at UPA in New York then transferred to UPA, Hollywood. He directed the short films Trees and Ham 'n' Hattie. When UPA downsized he founded Pantomime Pictures in 1958. The Oscar winning live action short Why Man Creates had, at its core, a short animated film written, designed and animated by Fred with Art Goodman. Over the years, Fred has produced a steady stream of unique short films for festivals, cable television and theatrical release. Pantomime produced the memorable Roger Ramjet series and Saturday morning shows Skyhawks and Hotwheels. Pantomime has produced over 100 segments for PBS's Sesame Street and The Electric Company. Fred has worked with Hanna-Barbera, Fred Wolf Films, Jay Ward, Bob Kurtz, Sony, DIC, Saban and Disney. Fred has taught, in recent years, animation and storyboarding at Associates in Art, Cal Arts, Glendale Community College, Mt. San Antonio College and The Art Institute of Los Angeles in Orange County.
