Mel Shaw

Mel Shaw began his long career as a Layout and Story man with Harman-Ising from 1933 - 1938. In 1938 he went to work for Disney on Silly Symphonies. Mel was a polo player and Walt once told Mel that he rode like a wild Indian. Mel brought that energy to the silver screen as an animator and Story Artist on classics like Fantasia, Bambi, and the Wind in the Willows segment of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. Mel also brought his prodigious talents to later Disney classics like The Rescuers, The Fox and the Hound, The Great Mouse Detective, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King. His gallery-quality pastel art always made his story sketches a pure pleasure to look at. Little masterpieces most of which the public, unfortunately, has never seen.
