John Sparey began his career as an artist on Crusader Rabbit from 1950-1952. In 1957 and 1958 he animated TV spots and again animated Crusader Rabbit from 1957-1959. From 1960­1962 John acted as Supervising Animator on Calvin and the Colonel for Sam Nicholson. In 1964 John worked for Eagle Films as an animator on The Man From Buttonwillow. From there John moved on to Hanna-Barbera, animating on The Man Called Flintstone, Secret Squirrel, Herculoids,and Where's Huddles? In 1969 and 1970 he worked on Shinbone Alley, and then spent 11 years working for Ralph Bakshi on Fritz the Cat, Coonskin, Hey Good Lookin'and Mighty Mouse.After that John was an Assistant Director on Bakshi's Lord of the Rings then as Director for Steve Hahn on Star Chaser: The Legend of Orinin 1985. In 1986 and 1987 he was a Scene Planner on the Bagdasarian/DIC production The Chipmunks Adventure. From 1987 til 1994 John did storyboards on Garfield and Friends for Film Roman and was also a Sequence Director on Tom and Jerry ­ The Movie in 1993. In 1994 John was Director of Garfield: As Himself and Holiday Celebrations.
