Herb began his career in animation in 1952 in Disney's Traffic Department and soon transferred into Bill Justice's animation unit. When that shorts unit was disbanded Herb worked as a freelance Animator and Director at Playhouse Pictures and Quartet Films. He began Spungbuggy Works in 1963, doing commercials. By the 70s he was so busy with the company's live action spots that he brought in Frank Terry to head up the Animated Spots operation. They won many awards and grew until they had Randy Aikers, Dave Brain, Mark Kausler, Gary Katona, Bill Kroyer, Marv Newland and Bob Zamboni all working on staff, with Corny Cole, Alan Zaslove, Bob Zoell, Peter Lloyd and Duane Crowther working as free lancers. Herb and Frank produced noted campaigns for Levis, Raid, Tootsie Pops, Clairol Shampoo, Bell telephoneand Little Debbie Dessert Cakes. Herb closed the company and retired in 1999.
