Artist and designer GUY DEEL passed away on December 13 at the age of seventy-two, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He worked as a production designer and visdev artist for Disney on Oliver and Company, The Lion King, Fantasia 2000 and Tarzan, and for Don Bluth on Thumbelina and The Pebble and the Penguin. He designed the theme mural for the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum in Griffith Park, and a mural depicting the centennial of his hometwon of Irving, Texas. The family has suggested donations in his name to the Alzheimer's Association.
