All Gnomon DVDs can be played in DVD-ROM format. This requires a computer
running Windows XP Pro, Windows 2000 or Mac OS X 10.2 or higher, with a
DVD-ROM drive, 1 gHz or faster processor, minimum 500 mB hard disk space,
512 mB of RAM, 64 mB of video RAM amd a 1280x1024 display. Alias Maya is
not required to play the instructional videos, but may be required for the
sample files.
In addition, those Gnomon DVDs marked as
can be played on standard home DVD players, although
not all features may be available.
CD-ROMs from Lynda.com can be played on any PC computer running Windows
98 or higher, or Macintosh with G3 or higher processor running OS 8.5.1
or higher, and a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. CD-ROMs cannot be played on home
DVD video players.
Terms for borrowing training videos are as follows:
- Members of The Animation Guild (active or inactive) are eligible to
borrow videos. Guild members can also view videos at the Guild office during
working hours without leaving a deposit. (On-premises viewing of videos
marked as
requires an advance
reservation for the computer
lab.)
- There is no fee for borrowing, but Guild members must post a cash or
check deposit for $95.00 per item. The deposit will be refunded in full
when the video is returned promptly and in good condition. Checks may be
postdated to the date of return, and will not be cashed unless the video
is not returned or is damaged beyond repair.
- Guild members may have no more than three videos (DVDs or CD-ROMs)
on loan at the same time.
- Videos can be borrowed for two weeks (fourteen days), with the
option of renewing for an additional two weeks only if no one else
has reserved the video. To renew the loan of a video, the member must contact
the union office by phone or e-mail at least forty-eight hours before
the end of the borrowing period.
Under no circumstances can a video loan be renewed more than once; in other
words, the maximum loan period is four weeks.
- Guild members can reserve any video that is not available. Reservations
will be honored in the order received.
- Videos must be picked up from and returned to The Animation
Guild, 4729 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA 91602-1864.
Members must come in during office hours to borrow or return videos (Monday-Friday
8:30 am to 5 pm). A Guild member can send a non-member to borrow
a video only if they have arranged to do so in advance. We will not mail
videos. Members may return videos by mail, so long as we receive the video
before the end of the borrowing period.
- If a video has not been returned or renewed by the end of the loan
period, we will contact the member by phone and/or e-mail. If we do not
receive the video(s) within 72 hours from that point, we will order a replacement
video. Once the replacement video is ordered, no portion of the deposit
will be refunded even if the video is returned. The same policy will apply
if a video is damaged and unusable.
- Under no circumstances may the Gnomon DVDs be duplicated.
- We do not have DVDs or CD-ROMs for sale through the Guild. To
purchase a Gnomon DVD set, visit
their website. (Note that it's $10 to $15 cheaper to purchase a set
from Gnomon than to forfeit the deposit.)
For further details, contact Jeff Massie or Marta Strohl-Rowand at the
union office at (818) 766-7151 or
by e-mail. We suggest you call before coming over to make sure the video
you want is available.
